Healthy Lifestyles Workshop

Healthy Lifestyles is a three hour workshop that addresses healthy living from a holistic perspective. The workshop demonstrates how physical, mental, and emotional health are all interconnected as well as strengthens the participants ability to make personal changes through the application of goal-setting tools. While the workshop strives to bring awareness to healthy living, it also improves the participants health literacy by using interactive teaching methods and practicum. From a patient stand point, the workshop focuses on the ask me three strategy, developed by the National Patient Safety Foundation, What is my main problem; what do I need to do; why is it important for me to do this, (http://www.npsf.org/askme3/for_patients.php)

The Healthy Lifestyles Workshop was designed and will be facilitated by the Health Literacy Project and the Diabetes Prevention Initiative at Southern Area Health Education Center (SoAHEC) at New Mexico State University located in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The workshop is currently being implemented in Doņa Ana and Otero Counties and is available in English and in Spanish. In addition to the SoAHEC staff, it is also being implemented by community health workers who have attended train-the trainer workshops.
